Wallisia E.Morren

Wallisia is a genus of the subfamily Tillandsioideae, family Bromeliaceae.
It is named in honor of Gustav Wallis (1830-1878), German gardener and botanical explorer in Central and South America who collected the type specimen plant in Brazil. Wallisia was resurrected to genus status during the collaborative multi-locus DNA sequence phylogeny and morphology study and taxonomic revision of the Tillandsioideae subfamily. (Barfuss et al. 2016. Phytotaxa 279(1): 001-097).
The genus contains five species, all formerly part of genus Tillandsia. (source: Encyclopaedia of Bromeliads)
