Plant stemless or caulescent, sometimes branched, 16-24 cm high.
Leaves densely pruinose-gray-lepidote, the outer reduced to pointed sheaths, the inner to 16 cm long, often recurved;
Sheaths scarcely distinct;
Blades narrowly triangular, about 10 mm wide at base, involute, pungent.
Scape erect, short;
Scape-bracts lower ones foliaceous, long-laminate, the upper ones lanceolate, acute, membranaceous, appressed-lepidote.
Inflorescence simple, linear-lanceolate in outline, laxly 5-7-flowered, to 9 cm long, 1 cm broad.
Floral bracts erect, narrowly lanceolate, acute, imbricate but not concealing the rhachis, 25-30 mm long, convex, membranaceous, strongly nerved, bright rose, densely and persistently lepidote.
Flowers subsessile.
Sepals narrowly lanceolate, acute, 20 mm long, membranaceous, nevered, the posterior ones carinate and connate for 6 mm;
Petals violet, 4 cm long, tubular-convolute;
Stamens and pistil exserted.
Type. Purpus 5856 (holotype GH, isotypes BM, F, MO, NY, UC, US), Zapotitlin, Puebla, Mexico, Apr 1912.
DISTRIBUTION. Saxicolous, ca 1650 m alt, southern Mexico.
MEXICO. PUEBLA: Tehuacan, Mar 1904, Trelease 130/04/17 (MO). OAXACA: Oaxaca, 20 May 1906, Pringle 13856 (US); 13857 (GH, US).

Tillandsia pueblensis var glabrior L. B. Smith now treated as T. schiedeana ssp. glabrior.

- acaulis, 16-24 cm. alta; foliis rosulatis, dense pruinoseque griseo-lepidotis, exterioribus reductis, interioribus ad 16 cm. longis, saepissime recurvatis; vagina vix distincta, lamina anguste triangulari, basi ca. 10 mm. lata, involuta, pungenti: scapo erecto, brevi, vaginis inferioribus foliaceis, longe laminatis, vaginis superioribus lanceolatis, acutis, membranaceis, oppresse lepidotis: inflorescentia simplicissima, lineari-lanceolata, lax 5-7-flora, ad 9cm. longa, 1 cm. lata; bracteis florigeris stricte erectis, anguste lanceolatis, acutis, imbricatis sed rhachin haud obtegentibus, 25-30 mm longis, membranaceis, valde nervatis, appresse griseo-lepidotis, pulchre rubris: floribus subsessilibus; sepalis anguste lanceolatis, acutis, 20 mm. longis, rnembranaceis, nervatis, carinatis, posticis inter sese ad 6 mm. connatis; petalis violaceis, 4 cm. longis, tubulose convolutis; staminibus styloque exsertis. In Mez's monograph this species keys down to T. sublaxa, from which it differs in its pruinose-lepidote leaves, lepidote floral bracts and connate posterior sepals.
