Pseudalcantarea (Mez) Pinzón & Barfuss
Pseudalcantarea is a genus of the subfamily Tillandsioideae, family Bromeliaceae.
This genus was created in 2016 after the multi-locus DNA sequence phylogeny and morphology study and taxonomic revision of the Tillandsioideae subfamily. (Barfuss et al. 2016. Phytotaxa 279(1): 001-097). The genus name comes from the latin word pseudo (false), meaning false or wrong Alcantarea. The three species involved were all formerly in the genus Tillandsia.
