From the BSI's Cultivar Registry...
"A plant from F. Gruber allegedly collected in the Santa Marta Mountains in Colombia. There is suspicion that this plant really originated in a nursery in Colombia which is why it was called a bigeneric. However, it has not been examined in detail and could well be an Aechmea with no direct links to Neoregelia. There is a variegated form."
