Karawata is a genus of the subfamily Bromelioideae. It was accepted in 2019 after a morphological and phylogenetic studies of Aechmea subgenus Chevaliera that separated seven species into the new genus (A new genus of Bromeliaceae endemic to Brazilian Atlantic Forest. They grow as ephiphytes, terrestrials and saxicoles in eastern Brazilian states.
