Alcantarea (E.Morren ex Mez) Harms.
Alcantarea is a genus of the subfamily Tillandsioideae, family Bromeliaceae.
It is named for Dom Pedro d Alcantara, second Emperor of Brazil.
[Alcantarea] was re-established to genus status from within [Vriesea] in 1995, with all species endemic to Brazil. Most species are large, tank forming plants, growing terrestrially on steep rocky inselbergs and in stony terrain.
